Dunkin’ Montreal — Locations, Opening Date & Menu
Last updated 23 September 2026. No Dunkin’ locations are open in Montreal yet. Montreal is a confirmed launch market, with the first store expected in late 2026 or early 2027 and roughly 200 locations planned across Quebec.
Montreal is the centre of the Dunkin’ Canada story. The chain was a Quebec institution for four decades before it collapsed, the operator bringing it back is headquartered here, and Quebec is slated for roughly a third of all planned Canadian locations.

Why Quebec Gets the Largest Share
Dunkin’ peaked in Canada at more than 200 locations, and the overwhelming majority were in Quebec. Through the 1980s and 1990s it was a genuine competitor to Tim Hortons in Montreal, not a niche import. That history means name recognition in Quebec that does not exist in the rest of the country.
The collapse was an operational failure rather than a demand failure. Quebec franchisees sued the parent company in the 2000s, arguing it had failed to invest in store standards, marketing and product development while Tim Hortons expanded around them. In 2012 a Quebec court found in their favour. The last Canadian store closed in 2018.
Foodtastic is betting that the brand equity survived the execution. It is a reasonable bet: Dunkin’ nostalgia in Quebec is real and has been visible in local media coverage of the return.
Where Montreal Locations Are Likely to Open
| Area | Why | Likelihood |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown / Ville-Marie | Office and commuter density | Very high |
| Plateau-Mont-Royal | Cafe culture, foot traffic | High |
| Laval | Suburban drive-thru format | High |
| Longueuil / South Shore | Commuter corridor | High |
| West Island | Historically strong Dunkin’ market | High |
| Quebec City | Second Quebec market | Medium |
| Gatineau | Ottawa spillover | Medium |
The Quebec Coffee Market
| Chain | Approx. Quebec Locations | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Tim Hortons | ~600 | Volume leader |
| McCafé | ~150 | Price challenger |
| Starbucks | ~120 | Premium |
| Second Cup | ~40 | Foodtastic-owned |
| Van Houtte / independents | Several hundred | Strong local presence |
| Dunkin’ | 0 today | Returning |
Quebec has the strongest independent cafe culture in Canada, which cuts both ways. It means more competition for quality-focused customers, but it also means the market is less locked up by Tim Hortons than Ontario is.

Language and Branding in Quebec
Quebec’s language legislation requires French-language commercial signage with French predominant. Trademarked brand names may generally be retained, but descriptive menu and signage elements will need French versions, and recent amendments have tightened the requirements around trademarks on public signage.
Foodtastic operates extensively in Quebec and will be familiar with the requirements. Expect French-language menu boards and packaging from day one. Whether the Dunkin’ wordmark appears alongside a French descriptor has not been announced.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Dunkin’ in Montreal?
Not yet. Montreal is a confirmed launch market with the first store expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
How many Dunkin’ locations will Quebec get?
Roughly 200, according to Foodtastic founder Peter Mammas. That is about a third of the 600 to 700 national target.
Why did Dunkin’ leave Quebec?
Underinvestment in the franchise network while Tim Hortons expanded aggressively. Quebec franchisees sued and a 2012 court ruling found in their favour. The last store closed in 2018.
Will Montreal Dunkin’ have French menus?
Quebec language law requires French-language commercial signage with French predominant, so yes. Foodtastic is a Quebec operator and will be building to those requirements.
Will Quebec City get Dunkin’ locations?
Not named as a launch market, but it is the second-largest Quebec market and would be a logical early expansion target within the 200-location provincial plan.
